For the past 14 years, Highlands Community Bank has been contributing to the Dabney S. Lancaster Community College Educational Foundation.
As a community bank, we believe it is our duty to serve our local residents and businesses by contributing to the local economy any way we can. Our outreach efforts in the community is a key pillar in these efforts.
About Dabney S. Lancaster Community College
One of the major economic drivers in our community has been Dabney S. Lancaster Community College (DSLCC).With two locations, in Clifton Forge and Buena Vista, they provide higher education and workforce solutions for the residents of the Highlands and beyond. Each year, they enroll approximately 2,000 students for certificate and degree programs and have played a major role in job creation and economic development in the area.
Since 2005, Highlands Community Bank has been humbled by the opportunity to contribute to DSLCC’s Educational Foundation, which provides scholarships to over 100 local students each year. Over the lifetime of our relationship, we’ve been able to contribute approximately $75,000 to the Educational Foundation.
2019 Highlands Community Bank Annual Scholarship Recipient
The Highlands Community Bank Annual Scholarship was established to assist graduating seniors from local high schools in our service area in pursuing the business curriculum at the college. It can be applied to two consecutive semesters, can be used to cover tuition and books, and requires that students maintain a certain GPA.
On June 13, our President and CEO, Bryan Thompson, had the opportunity to present our scholarship award to Hannah Leitch of Alleghany High School.
How to Apply
We look forward to continuing this tradition for many years to come and encourage parents and students to consider applying for our Annual Scholarship if they plan to pursue business education at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College. Applications for the 2020-2021 will be available on our Community Resources page.
