We truly cannot believe we got here. As of September 2022, Highlands Community Bank has been open for 20 years and we could not be more proud.

History of Highlands

In 2001, a group of twenty investors came together and thought the Alleghany Highlands needed a local community bank. Together, the group made the rounds across the highlands and inspired others to invest in this new community bank. Approximately 1,500 investors came together and raised the $7 million that was needed to achieve their goals of opening a local community bank.

On September 16, 2002, the doors of the “bank-in-a-box” were officially open. The bank-in-the-box was a trailer that sat in the Covington location parking lot and housed 10 employees. “Talk about a close-knit family,” says Kathy Joe, a long-time employee of Highlands Community Bank. The trailer had a teller line, a computer room, and boxes that doubled as cafeteria tables. Since 2001, Highlands Community Bank has over $200 million in assets, $185 million in deposits, and $118 million in loans. In addition to that, Highlands Community Bank has given several hundred thousand dollars in charitable donations to our local community.
